Background:

The photograph was taken by Rebecca's support worker during a magical evening walk in August 2018. The support worker stood quietly nearby, not intervening, but allowing Rebecca to experience in her own way, and for the first time in her life, the wonder of a sunset in the countryside.

The poem incorporates the words and phrases written by the support worker in Rebecca's Daily Diary, describing that most special experience.

The setting sun sends shafts of golden light across the fields. Birds twitter sleepily,

Leaves gently rustle;

The only sounds in the silence surrounding me.

I sit and listen,

And watch and dream;

Absorbed in my first experience of this wonderful sight. I am at peace,

In my world.
