February Review ☀️ 🌱 🌾

Here at Solo we love hearing about our clients and our employees’ achievements. One of our client’s teams celebrate each month with their own newsletter – ‘STAR news’. This month they are thrilled that our client, Rebecca, has been able to hold her own cup and drink unaided. A huge achievement as her family had previously thought she would not be able to do this again. The newsletter also informs us what events and activities our client has enjoyed that month, such as music groups, visiting local cafes and the animal sanctuary. Thank you so much to Rebecca and her team for sharing these moments with us.

We are proud to announce that the amazing team supporting Rebecca are finalists in the Lincolnshire Care Awards 'Outstanding Care Team' category and are attending the awards evening on Thursday 28th Feb. Congratulations on being selected as finalists and best luck on the evening. An award would be a wonderful recognition of your continued hard work and dedication.

Our Dignity poetry winners were announced at the start of the month. Client Relations Manager Roisin had the difficult job of judging and was overwhelmed by the standard of entry and the effort so many people had gone to. On behalf of Roisin “Thank you to everyone that participated in the competition” and congratulations to our winners, see our website for the winning entry as well as other entries. Where we have permission we will share entries with the Dignity Council to show what dignity means to Solo clients and employees with an even wider audience.

Our Client Relations Team received Care Planning and Safe Administration of Medication Administration Training this month from an external provider.  This has further increased their knowledge and understanding the development and creation of a truly personal plan to benefit the individual. The training also focused on Medication awareness to ensure the team’s background knowledge when creating care plans and the associated risk assessments.

In other news from our head office team, our Assistant Client Relations Manager Lucy has celebrated her one year anniversary with the company. We have also had a new member join the head office team: Helen K joins us as Administration Assistant. Read all about the head office team on our ‘Meet the Team’ page on our website.

We follow with interest all news and updates on Personal Health Budgets (PHB) and the Personalisation Agenda. We were pleased to read an NHS England update this month that 40,344 people in England now benefit from a PHB; on the right track to reaching their 2023 – 2024 target of 200,000. For more information on NHS England and Personal Health Budgets see their website: www.england.nhs.uk/personal-health-budgets/

And finally, the Department of Health have launched a new initiative to encourage more people to go into care work. The campaign will be supported by digital, social media and radio advertising and will focus on the rewarding aspects to working in care as well as the wide range of varied job roles available in adult social care. The website www.everydayisdifferent.com  gives examples of what it means to work in care and offers links to the job centre site to look into available roles. We feel this is a really positive step in publicising the benefits to care work and Solo will be promoting this campaign further in the coming months.

Thanks for reading.
